This month, we are featuring both our Between the Bars workshop and Salon Concert in one evening. We are excited to have Quartet 131 joining us for a pre-concert conversation and a salon concert. You will be introduced to Haydn and Beethoven's early string quartets.
For more than 200 years, people of every stripe have exalted the music of Ludwig van Beethoven as transcendent, path finding and profound. What is it about Beethoven’s music that has so endearingly captivated audiences? Join us with Marshall Estrin as we dive into the world of Beethoven’s music, covering both their immense beauty and the events that shaped Beethoven as an artist.
The first Between the Bars workshop of 2020 will take place on January 19. At this workshop, we will discuss the infamous Beethoven Spring Sonata play by violinist Mari Lee and accompanied by pianist Kelly Lin. This month, we are thrilled to have our Artistic Director, Andy Lin and Pianist Fei-Fei to talk about music for Erhu (Chinese Violin). Andy is not only a violist but also a fantastic erhu player. He will introduce one of his favorite poems “Newly Weds Departure 新婚別” by the famous Chinese poet Du Fu 杜甫 and discuss how composers transform the poem into music for erhu and piano.
This month, we have the privilege to invite Isabelle Seula Lee to talk about Baroque music and the history behind its era. In this workshop, you will learn about the Baroque era, the importance of it in music history, and some violin pieces from the time period. We hope to see you there!
